Episode 01 of Senkou no Night Raid was slick, fast-paced and seeks refuge under the audacity of Rule of Cool entertaining. It actually reminded me of Baccano, with Kagura and Aoi having a slight resemblance to Luck Gandor and Firo.

Angel Beats! 02
Hmm… I must say I like the OP of Angel Beats!. It’s piano-driven, with a heavy bassline, very catchy.
Ep. 02 starts with the Battlefront needing to replenish supplies and get new weapons from the Guild, where they make their weapons. It is latter revealed that they create things by ‘replicating’ it with their memories. Which is an awesome concept, especially if we can do that in the real world. ;_;
B Gata H Kei 02
Episode 02 is an obligatory pool episode, with the idea being put forward by Yamada’s long-suffering, F-cup equipped, best friend Takeshita, who insists on making it a double-date to give Yamada the chance to repair their… not sure what to call it but I guess ‘relationship’ works. e_e
Mayoi Neko Overrun 01
I must say, episode 01 of Mayoi Neko Overrun was quite a disappointment.
I didn’t really have high hopes for it, on the contrary I didn’t expect it to be anything more than a fanservice-fluff series.
The character designs are cute, and some of the characters look interesting BUT the story-telling sucks.
Bad pacing and disjointed narrative were a huge turn-off for me, and this episode is full of it.
Other than the story-telling, it seemed like a good series.
The animation is smooth, and the characters are very well-drawn, but… you can find the same in the manga but with a far more coherent narrative.
I’m not giving up on this series yet, just downgrading it into the “Consideration’ pile. If the next two episodes doesn’t show improvement in regards to story-telling, I’ll have to drop it.
Signing off,
NK.
Darker than Black Gaiden 02
Episode 02 is one of the most unsettling Darker than Black episodes yet, with extended shots of Hell’s Gate, a suffocating sense of abandonment and…
Niji Iro Togarashi
My first exposure to Mitsuru Adachi was through the manga Niji Iro Togarashi, which translates into rainbow-coloured chilli powder It’s a nonsensical title, but it’s a very interesting story in an interesting setting. Without a doubt, this is Mitsuru Adachi’s most peculiar work.
“The story is set in a place very similar in appearance to Earth in the Edo period. However, Adachi regularly reminds the reader all throughout the series that the setting is another planet in the distant future which just happens to look like Earth.”
Translation: The setting allows the mangaka to introduce concepts that attracts his fancy in an ancient samurai setting.
Mitsuru Adachi
Mitsuru Adachi is a prolific sports Mangaka, with most of his works focusing on the game of Baseball, and in breaking the fourth wall, as well as inserting cameos from other media in his works.
It’s not an exaggeration that he’s one of my favorite authors, sympathetic characters, good character interactions and high-tension, dramatic pacing makes him a very effective story-teller. Continue reading ‘Mitsuru Adachi’
