Episode 02 is an obligatory pool episode, with the idea being put forward by Yamada’s long-suffering, F-cup equipped, best friend Takeshita, who insists on making it a double-date to give Yamada the chance to repair their… not sure what to call it but I guess ‘relationship’ works. e_e
At any rate, after some insidious persuasion that only the females of the human species can ever conceive and execute,
Kosuda has no choice but to accept.
This episode also introduces us to Takeshita’s boyfriend, who is so cool that he begins to frighten Yamada.
It also came to my attention that B Gata H Kei is divided into two sections per episode. The 2nd part of episode 02 bears a few surprises for Yamada’s budding… love? lust? whatever… for Kosuda. To her horror, she found Kosuda talking and being friendly with a girl.
Compared to Yamada, the girl is plain, not to mention an airhead. She beats Yamada in one, very important, area though.
She’s also the long-enduring childhood friend of Kosuda, whose affection he continues to ignore due to his inherent denseness. I guess if you are a fan of the ‘childhood friend’ character, like Kanako in Nyan Koi (;_;), this is another series you won’t be watching. I mean come on, you expect her to win? e_e
At any rate, I guess one of the reasons why B Gata H Kei is quite likeable as a series is that it doesn’t try to be anything but a show about callow youth and teenage hormones. I’m not sure if I have grown desensitised towards decadent displays of flesh, but I thought that B Gata H Kei manages to do the fanservice without it feeling too contrived or embarassing as some of the older shows.
There are more boob jokes and misunderstandings to be had, along with an indicator of what this series will eventually be about:
Essentially it will be a long, eventful journey about disabusing the notion that being a slut is something to strive for. In no way, it is a high-brow show and it does nothing to present itself as such. That it is hilarious and fun to watch is a bonus.
With that, I move B Gata H Kei into the ‘must-watch’ pile.
Signing Off,
NK.
